Celtic Close in on Landon Emenalo Loan from Chelsea

Celtic are closing in on a season-long loan for Chelsea teenager Landon Emenalo as Martin O’Neill’s rebuild gathers pace ahead of a pivotal European week.

The 18-year-old, as reported by Stephen McGowan in The Herald, has been lined up to provide cover and competition for Kieran Tierney at left-back and could be the next new face through the door at Celtic Park.

Emenalo, son of former Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo, has come through the Stamford Bridge academy and already carries an intriguing international profile, having represented both England and the United States at youth level. His versatility has long been his calling card. He was previously viewed as a midfielder or central defender, but three eye-catching outings at left-back in Chelsea’s pre-season under Xabi Alonso have shifted the picture.

O’Neill has moved quickly. Celtic are in the middle of a frantic spell of transfer business, with the club already confirming the £6million signing of Egyptian winger Haissem Hassan on a four-year deal, with an option for a further season. German Under-21 midfielder Mika Baur has also travelled to Glasgow and is due to undergo a medical as he closes in on his move.

The squad is being reshaped at speed. Camilo Duran and Danish striker Kasper Høgh have already arrived this summer, and now Hassan, Baur and Emenalo could all be in the building before next week’s Champions League play-off first leg against LASK Linz. O’Neill has been clear that he wants quality rather than sheer numbers, but the volume of deals under way underlines the urgency of getting this window right.

Goalkeeper Situation

One key area remains unresolved. Celtic are still in the market for a goalkeeper, with the club intent on finding a first-choice option capable of handling the demands of domestic dominance and European scrutiny.

While the focus has been on arrivals, the exit door may yet swing open. West Ham are expected to return with an improved offer worth £25million for Arne Engels as they test Celtic’s resolve. At the same time, Everton’s interest in Alistair Johnston has complicated O’Neill’s defensive planning.

Celtic are reluctant to part with the Canadian right-back and are understood to value him at more than £15million, a stance that has forced Everton to examine alternative targets. For now, Johnston stays, the bids are circling, and O’Neill continues to add pieces.

Emenalo’s potential loan would be another calculated move in a window that could define Celtic’s season before a ball is even kicked in the Champions League play-off.
