Brighton Signs Jaouen Hadjam to Strengthen Left Flank

Brighton have moved to sharpen their left flank with the arrival of Algeria international Jaouen Hadjam, and inside the club there is no doubt about why he has been targeted.

Technical director Mike Cave made it clear the defender has been signed with a specific role in mind, stressing how neatly Hadjam slots into the Seagulls’ high-tempo, possession-heavy approach.

“We believe Jaouen will be a great addition to the group, adding to our already strong options in defence,” Cave said, underlining both the depth and the profile Brighton want in that area of the pitch. “He is a modern left-back known for his pace, attacking output and technical abilities, which fits our style of play well. His route to the Premier League has been shaped by an international tug-of-war. Born in France, he came through their youth system before committing his senior future to Algeria in 2023. Since then, he has become a regular for the Desert Warriors, collecting 21 caps and featuring at this year’s World Cup, where Algeria went out to Switzerland in the round of 32.

That tournament experience adds weight to the signing. Brighton are not just adding potential; they are bringing in a defender who has already dealt with knockout pressure and the intensity of a global stage.

Competition on the left side of defence now looks fierce. Hadjam will go head-to-head with Maxim De Cuyper and Ferdi Kadioglu for minutes, a three-way battle that should sharpen standards in training and on matchdays. No one will be able to relax into their place.
