Brian Sorensen Joins Republic of Ireland Women's Team for World Cup Play-Offs

Brian Sorensen is set to return to the international stage this year, joining the Republic of Ireland women’s set-up for their World Cup play-off push.

The former Everton manager is expected to come in as assistant coach, working alongside Liverpool coach Amber Whiteley as part of a refreshed backroom team.

Sorensen will combine the role with his current job as technical director of Aston Villa Women, linking up with Ireland only during international windows. It means he will be back on the same side as Carla Ward, having previously faced her Villa team during his spell in the Women’s Super League with Everton.

World Cup Play-off Qualifying

Ireland face Kazakhstan in the first round of Women’s World Cup play-off qualifying, a two-legged tie scheduled for 9 and 13 October. The stakes are clear, and so is Sorensen’s brief: help guide Ireland through a high-pressure gateway to the finals.
