Bournemouth's Europa League Challenge: AC Milan and Real Sociedad Await
Bournemouth now know the scale of the task ahead in Europe – and it’s a serious one. Marco Rose’s side have been handed a demanding but enticing Europa League league-phase schedule, headlined by meetings with AC Milan and Real Sociedad.
Under Uefa’s revamped 36-club league format, teams were split into four seeding pots based on their performances in European competition over the last five seasons. From there, each club drew two opponents from each pot, with two key restrictions: no more than two teams from the same country, and no clashes with sides from their own domestic league.
Group Stage Opponents
- AC Milan (home)
- Real Sociedad (away)
- Viktoria Plzen (home)
- Sparta Prague (away)
- Sturm Graz (home)
- Celta Vigo (away)
- Hapoel Beer Sheva (home)
- Lillestrom (away)
It’s a mix of European royalty, awkward away trips and nights that could reshape the club’s continental reputation. The visit of AC Milan to the south coast will be the standout fixture, while journeys to San Sebastián and Vigo promise intense, technical tests in Spain.
There is no confirmed running order yet. Uefa will release the full fixture list in due course, slotting those eight games into a calendar that stretches from mid-September to the end of January.
League Phase Schedule
- Matchday 1: 16/17 September 2026
- Matchday 2: 15 October 2026
- Matchday 3: 22 October 2026
- Matchday 4: 5 November 2026
- Matchday 5: 26 November 2026
- Matchday 6: 10 December 2026
- Matchday 7: 21 January 2027
- Matchday 8: 28 January 2027
From there, the serious jeopardy begins. The knockout phase play-offs arrive on 18 and 25 February 2027, followed by:
- Round of 16: 11 & 18 March 2027
- Quarter-finals: 8 & 15 April 2027
- Semi-finals: 29 April & 6 May 2027
The final is set for 26 May 2027 in Frankfurt.
For now, Bournemouth can only look at that date and dream. Eight league-phase games stand between them and the business end of the competition – and every one of them now has a name.
