Basil Tuma Joins Malta's Provisional Squad for UEFA Nations League

Basil Tuma’s surge at Aldershot Town has earned him a place in Malta’s provisional 29-man squad for a crucial international block in the UEFA Nations League.

The 21-year-old winger only arrived at the EBB Stadium in the summer from Reading, but he has wasted no time making an impression. Eight appearances in, he has helped drive the Shots into eighth place with 15 points, injecting pace and direct running on the flanks.

Tuma’s route to the Malta setup has been anything but straightforward. Born in Uganda, he first pulled on his home country’s colours at the 2020 CECAFA Under-17 Championship, announcing himself on the regional stage. Two years later, in September 2022, Malta came calling at Under-19 level, opening the door to a new international chapter.

He stepped fully through that door in October 2024. Handed his senior Malta debut, Tuma came on at half-time and immediately changed the tempo, winning a penalty and underlining why the coaching staff were so keen to fast-track him. Since then he has added seven more caps, quickly becoming a regular part of the squad picture.

Upcoming Fixtures

Now comes another test. Malta face a demanding run of three UEFA Nations League fixtures across two weeks, starting away to Andorra on 24 September. A home friendly against Liechtenstein on 27 September offers a brief change of pace, then the competitive grind resumes.
