Barcelona Sell Jofre Torrents to Ajax for €6 Million

Barcelona have agreed to sell young full-back Jofre Torrents to Ajax in a deal worth around €6 million, including fixed fees and variables, with the Catalan club retaining 50% of the player’s rights.

The 19-year-old is expected in Amsterdam within hours to undergo a medical and sign a four-year contract with the Dutch giants, according to SPORT. The transfer was sealed on Thursday night when both clubs signed the final documents, closing the chapter on his Barcelona career almost as soon as it had begun at senior level.

La Masia graduate heads for Amsterdam

Torrents joined La Masia in 2017 as a ten-year-old and climbed steadily through the academy ranks. His reward came last season with four official first-team appearances, a brief but symbolic taste of elite football at Camp Nou.

He also featured in pre-season this summer, playing in friendlies against CE Europa and Birmingham City, hinting at a possible role under Hansi Flick. That door has now closed. His next steps will be taken in Amsterdam, not Barcelona.

For the moment, the defender is waiting on Barcelona’s final green light to travel. If the authorisation lands in time, he will fly immediately, complete his medical and sign his contract without delay. If not, the plan shifts slightly: he would head to the Netherlands on Sunday, watch Ajax from the stands, then go through his medical on Monday.

Ajax host Heerenveen at 16:45 on Sunday in the second round of the Eredivisie, and the club hope to have their new full-back in the stadium, even if only as a spectator.

First move abroad, fierce competition

This transfer marks Torrents’ first experience outside Spain. He walks into a club that demands instant adaptation and high standards. At Ajax, he will fight for minutes with Caio Henrique, who joined earlier in the window for €10 million and arrives as the presumed first choice on the flank.

The message is clear: Ajax see Torrents as a serious project, but not a guaranteed starter. He will have to earn it.

Barcelona, for their part, secure a fee now and keep half of his rights, positioning themselves for a future windfall if his development explodes in the Eredivisie.
