Barcelona Eyes Brazil’s Arthur Dias After National Team Call-Up

Barcelona cast their eye over Brazil’s newest defensive call-up on Sunday, as Arthur Dias stepped into the shop window at Arena da Baixada.

The 19-year-old Athletico centre-back, recently summoned by Carlo Ancelotti for the Brazil national team, is now firmly on Barça’s radar. According to ESPN, the Catalan club’s head of scouting was in the stands for Athletico vs Bahia, travelling specifically to assess the teenager up close.

It’s been a rapid rise. Arthur Dias came through Athletico’s own academy and only made his professional debut in 2025. He didn’t just ease his way in; he helped drive the club’s push back into Série A, establishing himself as a starter while still a teenager.

That momentum has carried into this year. Athletico sit third in the Brasileirão table with 49 points, chasing only leaders Flamengo on 60 and Palmeiras on 57. At the heart of that campaign: Arthur Dias, who has already racked up 32 appearances in 2026, all from the first whistle.

Squad Depth

Ancelotti has not been short of options at centre-back. For this first squad since the World Cup, he also named Gabriel Magalhães (Arsenal), Jair (Nottingham Forest), Marquinhos (PSG) and Vitor Reis (Manchester City). Even in that company, Arthur’s inclusion stood out as one of the surprises of the list.

Now, with Barcelona tracking his every move and a Brazil debut on the horizon, the question is no longer whether Europe will come calling.
