Barcelona’s hunt for one last defensive signing has not gone away. It has just gone quiet. Behind the scenes, though, one name keeps resurfacing: Castello Lukeba.

The RB Leipzig centre-back is firmly on the list of players admired at the club, with SPORT reporting that his profile continues to appeal to the sporting department. Deco has never fully closed the door on a late arrival before the transfer window shuts, and the centre-back market remains under constant review.

A defender built for Flick’s idea of Barça

This is not a new flirtation. Lukeba has been linked with Barcelona for months, and it is easy to see why he fits the blueprint being drawn up under Hansi Flick.

Barcelona want a left-sided centre-back who can defend high, play on the front foot and live comfortably with space at his back. Any move for the French defender would require a significant investment, the kind of fee that shapes the rest of the club’s planning in this window. For a player who would arrive to compete in an already evolving defensive unit, that is no small commitment.

From a purely sporting angle, the transfer makes sense. Lukeba offers the technical level to operate in a possession-first side and the speed to handle the physical demands Flick places on his back line. He fits the idea.
