Aston Villa Signs Aaron Wan-Bissaka on Loan
Aston Villa have struck a deal to sign West Ham defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, adding another big-name arrival to a summer of ruthless trading in the Midlands.
The DR Congo right-back is set to move to Villa Park on an initial loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. He has been granted permission to travel to the Midlands for a medical as the move edges towards completion.
The exact structure of the deal remains under wraps, but West Ham had previously told suitors they wanted £25m for the 28-year-old. Wan-Bissaka has not featured in either of West Ham’s opening two Championship fixtures while talks have been ongoing, a clear sign that the club have been preparing for life without him.
It is another significant outgoing in a summer of upheaval for West Ham. Mateus Fernandes has already gone to Tottenham for £85m, while Crysencio Summerville has departed in a £60m deal. The Hammers have at least locked down a cornerstone of their attack, with captain Jarrod Bowen signing a new contract.
Villa, though, are the ones reshaping their squad with a sharp edge. They have already sanctioned a headline-grabbing sale, sending Morgan Rogers to Chelsea for £117m, a move that helped drive their net spend down to the lowest in the Premier League — around £110m once all sales are factored in.
That hasn’t stopped them strengthening. Johan Manzambi and Joao Gomes have arrived to bolster the midfield, while Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho has joined on a loan with an obligation to buy, adding pace and direct threat out wide. Highly rated young centre-back Modou Keba Cisse has also been brought in to deepen defensive options.
Now Wan-Bissaka is set to plug straight into that evolving back line. A specialist right-back, experienced and defensively disciplined, heading into a season where Villa’s ambition is no longer a secret.
