Aston Villa Sign Teenage Winger Mbaye for €55m from PSG

Aston Villa have beaten some of Europe’s heavyweights to the signing of teenage winger Mbaye, striking a €55m agreement with Paris Saint-Germain that underlines the club’s growing ambition under Unai Emery.

The fee matches the French champions’ valuation and the move is now being finalised, with the paperwork in motion after a breakthrough in negotiations. Behind the scenes, the long-standing relationship between Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi helped push the transfer over the line, smoothing talks at a crucial stage.

Liverpool were among the clubs tracking Mbaye this summer, and not quietly. Interest from other top sides had been building for weeks, but Villa moved with conviction, placing themselves at the front of the queue and staying there. For Emery, this is not just a marquee signing. It is a tactical piece he has specifically asked for.

The 19-year-old joined PSG from FC Versailles 78 in 2018 and tore through the academy ranks. By August 2024, he was making his senior debut at just 16. He did not just dip his toes into first-team football, either. He stayed.

Mbaye has already clocked up 42 first-team appearances for PSG, scoring four goals and providing four assists. Last season he featured 31 times in all competitions, with three goals and two assists, and became the youngest player ever to start a competitive match for the club. Ten Ligue 1 starts and a Champions League appearance offered a clear message: this is a teenager who can live at European level, not just visit it.

His rise has been just as sharp on the international stage. After representing France at youth level, Mbaye switched allegiance to Senegal and made his debut for the African champions in November 2025. He already has 15 caps, played six matches in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations triumph, and started three games at the 2026 World Cup. The highlight came on June 16, when he scored against France on the biggest stage of all.

For Villa, the deal lands in the middle of a ferocious summer of activity. The club have already made eight signings and are closing in on Nicolas Jackson as a ninth arrival. It has not been one-way traffic. Morgan Rogers has joined Chelsea in a £117m move, while Ollie Watkins has departed for Al Hilal, ripping out a large chunk of last season’s attacking core.

Emery now has his new wide jewel to help shape the next version of this team. The question is no longer whether Aston Villa can attract elite young talent. It is how far this revamped squad can push the ceiling of what the club thought was possible.
