Arteta Sends Clear Signal to Barcelona as Julián Álvarez's Transfer Saga Heats Up
The fate of Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez, 26, remains unsettled. With the player keen on leaving and several clubs vying for his signature this summer, the transfer market is buzzing around him.
Barcelona’s Pursuit Faces Resistance
Barcelona stand out as the club most eager to secure the Argentine attacker to bolster their squad. Yet, Atlético Madrid has drawn a firm line, opposing any move to the Catalan side and favoring a transfer abroad instead.
Arsenal’s Interest Wanes After Arteta’s Remarks
Arsenal had been contenders for Álvarez’s acquisition. Speculation suggested that the club planned to include Swedish forward Viktor Gyökeres as part of a deal to lower the cost of signing Álvarez.
When questioned about Arsenal’s pursuit, manager Mikel Arteta stated: "I won’t talk about a player who is not from our team. I’m very happy with the team I have. Obviously, we want to improve it, and the club is working on that."
He further confirmed that Gyökeres will remain with Arsenal. According to Mundo Deportivo, this suggests Arsenal has stepped back from the race to sign Álvarez.
Current Status and Barcelona’s Position
With Gyökeres now confirmed as part of Arsenal’s plans, their interest in Álvarez seems to have cooled. Meanwhile, the Argentine striker is still enjoying his holiday while awaiting clarity on his next step.
Although Barcelona continue to prioritize Álvarez, they are content with their current attacking options, including Anthony Gordon, Adeyemi, and Bisseck. The club does not plan to rush into any deal for the forward at this moment.
