Arsenal Target Liverpool Starlet Vincent Joseph

Arsenal are set to prise one of Liverpool’s most highly regarded young forwards out of Anfield, with England youth striker Vincent Joseph agreeing to join the Premier League champions.

The Athletic reports that Arsenal have reached an agreement with the 16-year-old, leaving the two clubs to thrash out a compensation package for the teenager. The deal is not done yet, but the player’s future appears to be heading towards north London.

Champions keep pushing

Fresh from lifting the Premier League title, Mikel Arteta’s side are refusing to stand still. The first team has taken the spotlight, but the recruitment drive runs much deeper. Arsenal have been pouring energy and resources into their academy, determined to build a production line that can sustain their rise.

Now that strategy cuts directly into Liverpool’s plans.

Joseph, an England under-16 international, has emerged as one of the standout talents in his age group. He has hit eight goals in nine appearances for England’s under-16s and already stepped up to feature for Liverpool’s under-18s in the Premier League, a clear sign of how highly he is rated on Merseyside.

Yet he chose not to sign scholarship terms at Anfield this summer once his schoolboy registration expired, opening the door for Arsenal to step in and make their move.

Liverpool rebuild meets a setback

Liverpool, under new boss Andoni Iraola, have been busy reshaping their squad as they chase down Arsenal at the top of the table. Senior signings have already arrived, with Spanish winger Victor Munoz and French centre-back Jeremy Jacquet brought in to refresh the team. Talks over Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola are also ongoing as the Reds look to sharpen their attacking edge.

Against that backdrop, losing a promising academy striker to the reigning champions is a blow, and underlines how fiercely contested the youth market has become at the elite level.

Tribunal looms if clubs can’t agree

For now, Arsenal and Liverpool are attempting to agree a compensation fee. If they cannot, the case will head to a tribunal, a familiar route when players under 24 switch clubs before signing their first professional contract, or after one has expired.

The Professional Football Compensation Committee would then step in to set the figure. Their calculation would take into account Joseph’s age, his playing record to date, the length of time he spent in Liverpool’s system, the stature of both clubs, and the terms each side put on the table for him.

Arsenal have made their pitch. Joseph has accepted it. The final number is all that stands between Liverpool and the loss of another gifted academy forward to a direct Premier League rival.
