Arsenal Signs Liverpool's Teenage Striker Vincent Joseph

Arsenal have moved ahead of their Premier League rivals in the race for one of Liverpool’s most highly regarded academy forwards, striking an agreement to sign teenage striker Vincent Joseph.

The 16-year-old, who can play as a central No 9 or drop into the No 10 pocket, has been a prolific presence in Liverpool’s youth ranks, with Anfield-based observers describing him as “scoring freely” for years. Promoted briefly to the club’s U18s last season, he announced himself with three goals in his first two outings at that level.

That form has carried onto the international stage. Joseph has hit eight goals in nine games for England U16s and also remains eligible to represent Germany, underlining the level of interest that has quietly been building around him.

Arsenal beat rivals to Liverpool prospect

Manchester United were linked with a surprise move for Joseph back in March, but it is Arsenal who have ultimately won the race for his signature.

According to The Athletic, Joseph allowed his schoolboy terms at Liverpool to run down and opted not to sign a scholarship with the club. That decision opened the door for Mikel Arteta’s side, who have now “reached an agreement” with the forward.

Talks between Arsenal and Liverpool are ongoing over a compensation package. If the clubs fail to agree a figure, the fee will be set by a tribunal, as is standard when a player under 24 moves before signing a first professional contract or at the expiry of such a deal.

The Professional Football Compensation Committee (PFCC) will weigh up several factors: Joseph’s age, his playing record, how long he spent at Liverpool, the relative status of both clubs and the contract offers put on the table by each side.

Inside Arsenal, there is a belief they may have secured a future star. Joseph has already drawn stylistic comparisons to Jamal Musiala, with his ability to glide between the lines and threaten goal from multiple positions.

Elite No 9 hunt runs in parallel

While Arsenal move for tomorrow’s talent, they are also pushing to upgrade the here and now at centre-forward.

The club want an elite No 9 to compete with, and potentially complement, Viktor Gyokeres if they can land the Sporting CP striker. Contacts remain open with Julian Alvarez, with Arsenal having been monitoring his situation closely, but the Argentina international is understood to favour a move to Barcelona if he does leave Manchester City.

The London club are not limiting themselves to one target. The Telegraph report that Arsenal and Galatasaray recently discussed Victor Osimhen during wider talks that also involved Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri.

Sources indicate Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have all held internal conversations about whether to move for Osimhen, amid growing claims that his valuation has dropped to well below the £100 million mark.

United have cooled their interest in the Nigeria striker, which leaves Arsenal and Spurs in a stronger position should they decide to act. Any deal would still be expensive: Osimhen is expected to command a significant transfer fee and would require a major wage package to swap Serie A for the Premier League.

As the senior recruitment drive continues, Arsenal are also described as the club most keen on a Barcelona player, underlining a dual-track strategy: one eye on the next window, the other on the next generation.

Joseph’s arrival, once finalised, would fit that second strand perfectly. The question now is whether Arsenal can match that long-term bet with a marquee No 9 who can deliver from day one.
