Arsenal Poised to Sign Liverpool's Vincent Joseph

Arsenal are closing in on another statement raid on Liverpool’s talent pool, with teenage striker Vincent Joseph set to swap Anfield for north London.

The Athletic reports that Arsenal have reached an agreement with the England youth international after he chose not to sign scholarship terms with Liverpool this summer, following the expiry of his schoolboy registration. The Gunners now need to settle a fee with Liverpool for the 16-year-old.

Talks between the clubs are under way. Joseph is under 24 and has not signed a professional deal at Anfield, so if the two sides fail to agree a compensation figure, a tribunal will step in and set the price.

What’s clear is why Arsenal are pushing hard. Joseph has been prolific for England’s under-16s, scoring eight goals in nine appearances, and he has already had a taste of under-18 Premier League football with Liverpool, where he struck three times in just two games last season. A small sample, but a loud one.

This move fits a pattern. Arsenal have been aggressive in the academy market, determined to stockpile elite prospects before they explode on the senior stage. They have already beaten Liverpool to the signing of highly rated teenage goalkeeper Phoenix Blayney.

Blayney’s father, Alan, spelt out the scale of Arsenal’s commitment earlier in the summer, telling the Belfast Telegraph that everything is in place for his son’s long-term future in north London. The plan is for the youngster to sign a pre-contract when he links up with Arsenal this summer, before inking professional terms when he turns 17 in November 2027.

“Everything has been agreed with Arsenal, he just needs to sign the contract,” Alan Blayney said. “When he's 17, he will sign a professional contract. It's done and dusted and a pre-contract will be signed when the time is right.”

And Arsenal are not stopping there.

The club are also set to complete the signing of Cardiff City prospect Axel Donczew, another teenager with a record already attached to his name. Donczew became the youngest player ever to represent Cardiff’s first team when he made his debut against Newport County in the EFL Trophy on October 25, at just 15 years and 234 days old.

One by one, the next generation is being moved into place at London Colney. The question now is how quickly this quiet academy revolution starts to reshape Arsenal’s future on the pitch.
