Arsenal's Pursuit of Victor Osimhen: Salary Demands at Stake

Arsenal have drawn a clear line in the sand over their pursuit of Victor Osimhen: if he wants the Emirates, he will have to climb down from his current pay level.

The London club are pushing to sign the Galatasaray striker before the transfer window shuts, with Mikel Arteta still searching for the elite centre-forward he believes can turn his side from contenders into winners. Osimhen is firmly at the top of that list.

Arteta’s need has sharpened after Arsenal failed to make headway in a move for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, who is understood to favour Barcelona over a return to the Premier League. With that avenue closing, the focus has hardened on Osimhen — but on Arsenal’s terms, not his.

According to FootMercato, the Gunners have already held direct talks over a deal and made their stance clear. They want the Nigeria international, but they will not shatter their wage structure to get him. Any agreement now rests on whether the 27-year-old is prepared to accept a reduced salary.

Osimhen currently earns more than €20 million (£17.1m) a year at Galatasaray, a figure Arsenal are not ready to match. That alone is a major hurdle. The fee could be an even bigger one.

Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek has repeatedly stressed that the striker is not for sale. The Turkish champions backed that up earlier this month by rejecting a €130 million (£111m) bid from Al-Hilal, a statement offer from the Saudi Pro League side that still wasn’t enough to tempt them.

Blocked there, Al-Hilal moved on to another Premier League target, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins. They hit the same wall. Villa turned down a £45 million approach, underlining how hard it has become this summer to prise top-tier centre-forwards away from clubs who simply do not want to sell.

Through all of this, Osimhen has kept scoring.

He has started the season in Turkey in ruthless form, striking twice and adding an assist in Galatasaray’s 4-0 win at Erzurumspor on Friday. Before that, he also hit a brace in a 2-2 draw with Corum FK. His performances have only strengthened Galatasaray’s resolve and complicated Arsenal’s task.

For now, he remains the spearhead of the Turkish champions’ attack, leading the line while his future is debated in boardrooms and dressing rooms thousands of miles away. Arsenal wait, the clock ticks, and the question hangs in the air: will Osimhen sacrifice part of his salary to chase Premier League glory?
