Arsenal Pursues Victor Osimhen as Title Race Heats Up

Arsenal are exploring a blockbuster move for Victor Osimhen in the final weeks of the summer window, a pursuit that, if it lands, would send a jolt through the Premier League title race.

Mikel Arteta’s need for a new No.9 has lingered all summer. Gabriel Jesus looks increasingly like the odd man out at the Emirates, his future repeatedly linked with an exit as Arsenal search for a more ruthless presence up front.

Viktor Gyokeres offered glimpses last season that he could grow into that role, hitting 21 goals in 55 appearances across all competitions during Arsenal’s title-winning campaign. Those numbers hint at potential, but they do not close the door on an upgrade. Arsenal are still hunting a guaranteed 20-goal striker. Now the search has taken a dramatic twist.

Osimhen enters the frame

Arsenal have been flirting with the idea of prising Julian Alvarez away from Atletico Madrid, but a new report claims talks have been held over a move for Osimhen instead, with discussions taking place with Galatasaray.

The Nigeria international, who has already been offered to Tottenham this summer, came close to England two years ago when Chelsea held advanced talks to sign him from Napoli. That deal collapsed. Osimhen chose a different route, joining Galatasaray initially on loan before the Turkish champions made the move permanent for €75m (£64.8m) last summer.

He has been a force of nature in Istanbul. Osimhen has fired 59 goals in 74 games and driven Galatasaray to back-to-back league titles, his scoring record putting him firmly in the bracket of Europe’s elite centre-forwards.

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal have now placed him firmly on their radar. His name has been raised during conversations with Galatasaray over potential deals for Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri, as the two clubs explore a web of possible transfers.

Alvarez blocked, Osimhen opens up

The path to Alvarez looks increasingly blocked. Atletico are standing their ground, having already rejected interest from Real Madrid and knocked back a €100m (£86.7m) bid from Barcelona. Every enquiry has hit a brick wall.

Osimhen, by contrast, looks like a more realistic target. Galatasaray’s interest in Martinelli, in particular, offers Arsenal a potential route into serious negotiations.

The Turkish champions have already tabled a €45m (£38.4m) offer for Martinelli. That move is complicated by the Brazilian’s stance, with reports suggesting he is not especially keen on a switch to the Turkish league. His reluctance could slow that avenue, but it does not close the wider conversation between the clubs.

Arsenal have also put Ethan Nwaneri on the table, offering the 19-year-old to Galatasaray for €40m (£34.1m). Talks over the midfielder, who impressed on loan at Marseille last season, are said to be progressing between the two sides.

Those discussions keep the lines open. And in those same talks, Osimhen’s name continues to surface.

A second chance for Arsenal

Osimhen is not a new opportunity for Arsenal. He was offered to the club two years ago, only for the hierarchy at the Emirates to walk away, concerned Napoli would demand too high a fee. Since then, his stock has only risen.

Across his club career, Osimhen has scored 173 goals in 297 games. That is the profile Arsenal have been missing: a penalty-box predator with the athleticism to stretch defences and the numbers to terrify them.

This time, the stance is different. It is claimed Osimhen is open to a move to north London, and a deal that once felt out of reach now sits in front of Arsenal’s decision-makers as talks with Galatasaray intensify.

If Arsenal push this over the line, it will not just be another signing. It will be a statement that their title challenge is built to last.
