Arsenal Pursues Jack Hinshelwood in Summer Rebuild

Arsenal’s summer rebuild is accelerating, and Brighton’s Jack Hinshelwood has moved close to the centre of their plans.

Fresh from ending a 22-year wait for the Premier League title, Arsenal are not standing still. Bruno Guimaraes, Christos Tzolis, Piero Hincapie and Illan Meslier are already through the door, but the recruitment drive is far from over. A centre-back, a winger and possibly a striker remain on the agenda.

Now a new name has jumped towards the top of the list.

Arsenal push ahead in race for Hinshelwood

According to a report from The Sun, Arsenal are now “leading” Manchester United and Manchester City in the chase for Brighton’s versatile midfielder Jack Hinshelwood, who could command a fee in the region of £43m to £51m.

Hinshelwood, 21, is a defensive midfielder by trade, but Brighton have often pushed him higher up the pitch. He responded with four goals and four assists in the Premier League last season, a return that has sharpened interest from the division’s elite.

Arsenal are said to view him as a “top priority” target. The report adds that Mikel Arteta believes Hinshelwood would be the “perfect addition” to a squad already brimming with technical midfield talent but still looking for fresh energy and flexibility.

Brighton, predictably, are in no rush to cash in. The Seagulls would prefer to keep their academy graduate, and with three years left on his contract, they hold a strong hand at the negotiating table. The suggestion is that an offer in that £43m–£51m band could force a serious conversation, but nothing less.

Centre-back hunt continues – but two names off the table

While midfield and wide areas remain in focus, Arsenal’s search for a new centre-back is running in parallel.

Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa has been widely described as the main target. One report on Friday even claimed the deal was “99% done”, hinting that Arsenal were on the brink of landing the England international.

That, though, looks premature. Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel on Saturday morning, cooled talk of an imminent agreement. He stated that Konsa “remains on Arsenal’s shortlist” and is a player who is “very appreciated” at the club, but stopped well short of confirming any advanced stage or near-completion.

Arsenal have explored other options, but Romano has already shut down two of the names floated in recent days.

On Atletico Madrid right-back Marc Pubill, Romano was blunt: “The player is not for sale. Atletico Madrid have no intention to sell.” Any suggestion of Arsenal prising him away this summer can be parked.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Jarell Quansah is also off limits for now. Romano revealed: “Arsenal made official contact with Bayer Leverkusen… The answer from Leverkusen is that they don’t want to sell the player. So they rejected the approach.”

So the picture is clear. Arsenal are pushing on multiple fronts, but not every door is open.

Hinshelwood, though, remains very much in play. If Arsenal decide to test Brighton’s resolve with a bid in that £50m bracket, the champions’ next midfield cornerstone could be about to swap the south coast for north London.
