Arsenal's Decision on £38m Galatasaray Bid for Gabriel Martinelli

Arsenal have a major call to make on Gabriel Martinelli after Galatasaray tested their resolve with a £38million offer for the winger.

The Brazilian has entered the final year of his deal in north London, though the club hold an option to extend it by another 12 months. That clause gives Arsenal some protection, but it has not stopped them listening. For the right price this summer, they are prepared to sell. Galatasaray have now put that to the test.

The Turkish giants have lodged a formal bid and see Martinelli as a statement arrival, a player to jolt their attack and send a message across their league and in Europe. Whether the 25-year-old is ready to swap the Premier League for Istanbul is another matter. At this stage, there is no indication he is agitating to leave.

Martinelli is understood to prefer staying in one of Europe’s top leagues, and he has not been pushing for an exit from Arsenal. The decision, for now, sits more squarely with the club than with the player.

Martinelli has been at Arsenal for seven years, long enough to span multiple versions of this team. Yet he has never fully nailed down the status of undisputed first-choice winger. He has flashed brilliance, scored important goals, and survived several rebuilds, but competition has constantly circled around him.
