Alisson Fined £8,000 for Tunnel Incident After Controversial Penalty

Alisson Becker has been hit with an £8,000 fine by the Football Association after venting his anger at the fourth official’s numbers board in the tunnel following Liverpool’s controversial penalty incident.

The Liverpool goalkeeper lost his temper after the final whistle, striking out at the electronic board as he made his way back to the dressing room. The FA confirmed the charge related to his behaviour in the tunnel area.

“It was alleged that the goalkeeper acted in an improper manner around the tunnel area after the final whistle. Alisson Becker has subsequently accepted the charge against him and received the standard penalty.”

His fury stemmed from a late penalty award for a foul on Neco Williams, given even though the defender had already got his shot away before contact was made. Alisson was visibly incensed on the pitch and that frustration spilled over once the game was done.

The incident came at the end of a chaotic spell. The fourth official’s numbers board had malfunctioned, delaying a planned triple substitution by Andoni Iraola and adding to the sense of confusion before the penalty decision.

That decision has since been formally judged as incorrect. The Key Match Incident (KMI) Panel has ruled that referee Sam Barrott made the wrong call in awarding the spot-kick.

The FA punishment stands, though. Alisson has accepted it, the fine is set, and the debate now moves from the tunnel flashpoint to the wider scrutiny on a decision the league’s own panel has already condemned.
