Alejandro Balde has made his stance clear. He wants to stay at Barcelona and fight for his place.

The message has gone upstairs to the Barcelona hierarchy, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the left-back has informed the club of his desire to remain at Camp Nou and compete for a spot in the team. Barcelona, though, have been weighing up a sale in the final weeks of the window and are understood to be open to talks only if a major offer lands on the table.

The club’s position is simple: only a big proposal from a top side would shift the situation between now and Deadline Day.

United circle as Barcelona hesitate

Manchester United are one of the clubs who have tested the waters. After conceding defeat in their chase for Lewis Hall – with Newcastle United making it clear the England international is not for sale – INEOS have been forced to look elsewhere for left-back cover for Luke Shaw.

Balde fits the profile. He is young, already seasoned at the top level and has Champions League experience, an attractive blend for a United squad being reshaped under the new regime.

There is a catch. Reports indicate United are only in a position to push for a loan at this stage of the summer, with their midfield rebuild already costing £148 million upfront. That financial outlay has tightened what they can do at full-back.

For Barcelona, a simple loan with no significant fee attached makes little sense, especially now that Balde has expressed his wish to stay and fight. If the player is committed and the money isn’t eye-catching, the logic leans towards keeping him.

INEOS eye alternatives as clock ticks

With Balde’s stance firm and no indication of a huge bid arriving from Old Trafford, INEOS look unlikely to drive this pursuit much further. Other options are already on their shortlist.

Racing Santander’s Jorge Salinas and RB Leipzig captain David Raum are among the names being monitored, but the calendar is becoming a problem. Any move for either defender would require their clubs to find replacements in time, adding another layer of difficulty to late-window negotiations.

While the left-back search drags on, United’s midfield overhaul has taken clearer shape. Carlos Baleba was officially unveiled as a Red on Tuesday evening, even though an ankle ligament injury picked up in pre-season will keep him out of the first few fixtures. He joins Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans in what is now a rebuilt engine room for Michael Carrick.

So Balde waits in Barcelona, ready to compete. United keep scanning the market, short on time and long on needs.
