"It's a difficult question because he has enormous quality and it's important to know if a player is convinced to be able to compete in his position. That's what I want to see from all my players," he said.

He pushed the point further.

"Every day I see what the players do - the level - and if they show me that they have the level to play. In the end, we have to play as a team, only then will we have success. I need everyone to be one hundred percent."

For a player already under scrutiny, those words cut deep. They also framed what came next.

Later on Saturday, the narrative seemed to twist. Mundo Deportivo reported that Balde had not taken Flick’s comments as a slap, but as fuel. According to that version, he was ready to stay, ready to fight, ready to prove he belongs in this Barcelona.

There was one clear condition: if the club no longer wanted him, he would move on.

And then came the squad list.

No Balde. No place on the plane to Elche. For a player of his profile and status, that omission speaks louder than any press conference soundbite. Right now, it looks less like a warning and more like the first real step towards the exit door.

Premier League door wide open

If Barcelona are edging him out, the market will not hesitate.
