2027 Spanish Super Cup to Take Place in Istanbul with Top Spanish Clubs

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has officially agreed to hold the 2027 Spanish Super Cup in Istanbul. The event will run from February 2 to 6, featuring four major Spanish teams: Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Real Sociedad. This decision marks a notable change as Istanbul replaces Saudi Arabia, due to a scheduling conflict with the Asian Cup.

Signed Agreement in Turkey’s Largest City

RFEF president Rafael Louzan finalized the deal during a ceremony in Istanbul on a Thursday, confirming the city as the host for this prestigious tournament. The competition brings together the reigning La Liga champions Barcelona, Copa del Rey winners Real Sociedad, alongside Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

"Today we are presenting much more than an agreement to organise a competition," Louzan said at the Turkish Football Federation headquarters. "It is rather the relationship between two countries that live football with extraordinary passion. Football has that virtue and responsibility: it unites countries and brings cultures closer."

Three Istanbul Stadiums Set to Host Matches

The tournament matches will take place across three famous Istanbul stadiums with a total capacity of around 150,000 fans. The schedule includes:

• February 2:Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid at Fenerbahce's Chobani Stadium (48,000 seats)
• February 3:Real Sociedad faces Real Madrid at Besiktas Tupras Stadium (42,590 seats)
• February 6: The final will be held at Galatasaray's Ali Sami Yen Stadium, which holds 52,000 spectators

Financial Gains and Anticipation

The move to Istanbul maintains the lucrative format introduced by the RFEF. The last edition in Saudi Arabia generated €51 million, funds shared among the four clubs and grassroots football in Spain.
