Tottenham's Transfer Decisions: Bergvall, Sarr, and Moore
Roberto De Zerbi has drawn a firm line over Lucas Bergvall’s future – but left the door wide open on Pape Sarr and Mikey Moore as Tottenham’s summer reshaping rumbles on.
Bergvall going nowhere
Bergvall has been surrounded by transfer noise for weeks, his name repeatedly linked with moves away before he has even had a proper run in the side. De Zerbi is having none of it.
“Lucas Bergvall, 100 per cent,” the Spurs head coach said, emphatic and unflinching when asked if the midfielder would still be at the club after the window shuts on September 1.
“We spoke a lot in pre-season. He’s a top player with top potential player. I think now that he wants to stay and we have no problem.”
For Bergvall, that’s about as clear as it gets. Tottenham see him as part of the core, not a trading chip.
Sarr in the spotlight as Galatasaray push
The picture is far less settled around Pape Sarr. Brentford showed interest earlier in the summer, and Galatasaray are now mounting a serious push to take the Senegal international to Turkey.
De Zerbi made it clear he values the midfielder, but stopped well short of a guarantee.
“For Pape, he started pre-season late because he started in Senegal until first week in August, I think,” De Zerbi explained. “He’s a good player. I don’t know if he stays or not. We have to analyse the situation. But he is another very, very important player.”
That mix of praise and pragmatism sums up Sarr’s situation. Tottenham know his quality. They also know his market value. With Galatasaray pressing and the clock ticking towards deadline day, this is one that could move quickly if the numbers line up.
Moore and the academy queue
Mikey Moore sits in a different bracket entirely. The 19-year-old winger spent last season on loan at Rangers and has been tipped for another temporary move to keep his development rolling.
De Zerbi likes what he has seen.
“I am happy with Mikey Moore,” he said. “He is working well. He is a good player. I don’t know or not if he goes on loan. He has big potential for the club.”
The Italian broadened the lens, name-checking more of the club’s emerging talent.
“We try to find the best solution for every player we have. Also for Luca Williams-Barnett and Malachi Hardy. Big potentials. We’re proud they come from our academy.”
That pride is real, but so is the dilemma. Keep them close and drip-feed minutes, or send them out to learn the hard way elsewhere?
As the window edges towards its final weeks, Bergvall’s path is set. Sarr’s future hangs in the balance. Moore and his fellow academy prospects wait to discover whether their next step comes under the lights at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium or somewhere very different.
