RB Leipzig Targets Nkunku Reunion Amid Newcastle Interest

RB Leipzig have taken the first real step towards reuniting with Christopher Nkunku, yet the race for the France forward is far from over.

The Bundesliga club have reached a preliminary agreement with Milan for a deal this window, with the outline clear: a paid loan worth around €3 million, including a purchase option set at roughly €27 million, according to Foot Mercato. At this stage, nothing is signed. Leipzig still have to strike a deal on personal terms with the player before anything can move.

For Leipzig, this is about rewinding the tape. Nkunku’s best football came in their colours, and they want to revive that version of him after a Milan spell that never caught fire. Milan, for their part, are now focused on how to move him on in the cleanest, most beneficial way.

Just as Leipzig thought they had the inside track, another contender has stepped up.

Newcastle push for permanent deal

Newcastle United remain firmly in the picture and are not treating this as a background opportunity. They are in active talks with both Leipzig and Nkunku’s camp, pushing for a straight permanent transfer rather than a loan.

That stance could change the dynamic. A permanent offer would likely appeal to Milan, who may prefer an outright sale instead of a loan with a deferred buy option hanging over a future window.

So Leipzig have the emotional pull and a framework in place. Newcastle have Premier League muscle and the promise of an immediate, clean transfer.

Now the decision moves to the negotiating table – and to Nkunku himself.
