Liverpool in Talks to Sign Bradley Barcola from PSG

Bradley Barcola has been taken out of the firing line at Paris Saint-Germain. Not for form. Not for fitness. For his future.

The French winger has been excluded from all match-day squads while the club thrashes out what comes next, with Liverpool now in concrete talks to sign him, according to multiple reports.

Omission that said everything

PSG played twice last week in competitive action: Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup, then Lens in the Trophee des Champions. The line-ups looked familiar, the structure recognisable. But one name vanished between game one and game two.

Barcola.

His absence from the Lens squad was the first loud hint. The confirmation followed quickly: Luis Enrique will not select Barcola again until his situation is resolved.

The stance is clear. PSG do not want players on the pitch whose minds are already elsewhere. Under Enrique, commitment is non‑negotiable.

Squad already moving on

Inside the dressing room, the message is just as ruthless. Ferran Torres, Maghnes Akliouche and Mika Godts are all coming in, effectively closing the door on Barcola’s role in the squad before he has even left.

That makes the decision to sideline him easier. PSG also have a financial calculation in play. They are unwilling to risk injury to a player who could command a fee in excess of £130 million. Every minute on the pitch now carries a price tag.

Liverpool sense the opportunity. Talks with PSG are under way, and the feeling around the deal is that an agreement could be reached this week if negotiations stay on track.

Enrique’s blueprint emerges

Barcola’s exclusion slots into a wider pattern. The Trophee des Champions team sheet did more than win a trophy; it offered a snapshot of Enrique’s plans for the season.

The hierarchy in key positions is taking shape, and the coach is trimming away uncertainty. Those who stay are expected to buy fully into his project. Those who hesitate are being moved to the margins.

Not everything is going to script, though.

Goalkeeper plans back to zero

PSG believed they had their new goalkeeper lined up. A deal for Zion Suzuki from Parma looked all but done. Then it collapsed at the last moment, leaving the club back at square one in their search for a long-term option between the posts.

So Enrique moves into the next phase of the season with one major outgoing close, another key position unresolved, and a clear message to the rest of his squad.

You’re either all in, or you’re out.
